Tuition: $255
This is a collaborative course that incorporates photography and art direction to create a real life experience of photographers on assignment. Students explore and present project ideas, from which one is selected to be the “Assignment”. The project unfolds as students create the storyboard and work with makeup artists, models and local businesses to create a final photography project. Week 6 will include an all-day photo shoot with the final week dedicated to processing and printing files from the project. Field trips and guest artist presentations will augment class instruction. Students must have their own digital cameras and have taken a basic photography course.
"You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. We pardon to the extent that we love. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again. And the great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Love for ourselves. And even loved in spite of ourselves."
From Naomi's Grandpa "There are two things you need to make it in this world: Class and Balls"
Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph Andrew Bogut, Brandon Jennings, John Salmons and Larry Sanders of the Milwaukee Bucks. I'm not going to lie: I was nervous! I shot Bucks players at the same event a few years ago and was really happy with how they turned out. But it is still a bit disarming when all of a sudden you have four very tall athletes standing in front of you!
I snapped this photo of my assistant, Lacy, to give an idea of the size difference:
All in all, it was just as much fun as it was last time and I think I got some really fun shots!
I just found out that a photograph that I took for the socially responsible company Mayu, (which specializes in hand made alpaca knitwear from Peru www.shopmayu.com) is going to be featured on the cover of Chicago's Mindful Metropolis Magazine (http://www.mindfulmetropolis.com) next month!
Behold, beautiful Elizabeth!
Per the lovely chilly fall weather, I donned my own Alpaca Flap Hat last night and got called "adorable" multiple times. Yay for Fall!
This past May, I presented at Pecha Kucha Milwaukee (for more info www.pecha-kucha.org/night/milwaukee)
Dwellephant (www.dwellephant.com) was on hand, creating one-of-a-kind artwork of each of the presenters. I ran across his website today and found the one he did of me, so I thought I'd share it with everyone...
PRESENTER: JESSICA KAMINSKI
One of our favorite folks in Milwaukee, Jessica Kaminski, gave an excellent presentation on being half-Polish, half-Puerto Rican. Or as she refers to herself, “Polarican.” Which reminds me of the word “Polaroid.” Which is perfect because she’s a photographer. Perhaps Polaroid can make her a limited-edition camera and call it “The Polarican?” Something to think about, Polaroid.
I don't know if I have ever mentioned this on my blog before, but I LOVE MOVIES!!!! And, subsequently, I love the Milwaukee Film Festival. So, imagine my delight when they contacted me to inquire about photographing this year's campaign.
Prior to the meeting, I had just finished watching one of my favorite movies, Amelie.
The film festival slogan is "See For Yourself" . Both the movie I had just seen and the slogan reminded me of this scene from the movie:
So I pitched the idea of creating a series of images in this style. It was really important for me to keep the saturated colors of the movie as well. After a two day shoot at the Milwaukee Skylight Opera Theater, and the time and talent of an excellent crew, I think we created a stunning campaign. There are a series of 14 posters currently circulating the city, but here are a few samples:

Hi Everyone
As many of you may know, I do a lot of work with the Milwaukee Ballet. Being an artist myself, I have a great respect for other art forms. I try to use my gift as a photographer to work with other artists whenever I can.
The Ballet School is in need of a photographer to capture an upcoming performance, and unfortunately, I will be out of town during this time. If anyone is available and interested in not only helping out the school, but having the opportunity to see the Emergence show, please contact Chris Allen.
The details:
Milwaukee Ballet School's EMERGENCE 2010 performance is searching for a photographer to donate their time to capture photos of the School’s students in action during their stage performance.
There are three different options the photographer could choose to attend and photograph the show from “back of house”:
1. Thursday, July 29 - 3:30-5pm
2. Friday, July 30 - 4:30-6pm
3. Friday, July 30 - 7:30-9pm
All three performances are at the Wilson Center, 19805 W. Capitol Drive in Brookfield.
Milwaukee Ballet would like to provide the photographer with complimentary tickets to Emergence or a 2010-11 Company performance out of generosity for their time.

Photographer Pieter Wisse has started a weblog called "500 Photographers", in which he is posting images and short bios of 5 photographers each week, for 100 weeks. I AM LOVING THIS BLOG! It's such a great resource and it's inspiring to see what's going on. The photographer's are from all over the world. I really don't need to talk about it as much as you just need to go check it out.

I'm loving this photograph by Shadi Ghadirian that I saw on the blog:
