  • Donna Ricco and My First Cover!

Last month, M Magazine flew me to New York to photograph Mount Mary Alum, Donna Ricco for the fashion and beauty issue. You can view the article in the new issue which came out last week!

Soooooooooooo....this is the first time I've ever been flown somewhere for a photography job, and needless to say, I was very nervous! I was only there overnight, and didn't want to check in any photography luggage, in case they lost my bag or something. There also wasn't really a budget for me to rent or ship my equipment. My solution was to travel light, and shoot old school: with natural light. Even though this is how I learned photography, I felt a little naked not having a strobe kit with me.

In the first photo, I actually just lit Donna with the track lighting that was highlighting her dresses. I actually am really happy with how the lighting turn out. I simply make sure that she kept her chin up slightly so the light filled in her eyes. In the second photo, we photographed her outside of her studio, on 7th ave. Again, natural light was used.

It was a nervewracking, exciting experience for me. And the biggest plus? Donna Ricco is a really cool lady. Maybe it's her midwestern sweetness that comes through her New York city elegance?

  • M - Milwaukee's Lifestyle Magazine

    Hello Dear Friends

As you probably have noticed, I've been a little neglectful of this blog. There have been some changes in my life: I was awarded  "The Knot Best Of 2008" award for my wedding photography, which as you can probably imagine, increased my work load.

I also was offered a position as the staff photographer for M, Milwaukee's Lifestyle Magazine. As many of you know, fashion and people are my two favorite things to photograph, and this job allows me to do both of those things (AND get health insurance!!!)

Both of these are positive changes in my life, but they have also caused me a bit of delay and struggle as I try to figure out how to handle a new work load. I am working on bringing more people into my business to help me run things more smoothly. I assure you that I will not abandon this blog, as I greatly enjoy sharing my work with all of you. Rather, I ask for your patience and support during this transitional time.

And in a stroke of serendipity, I ended up shooting a Bridal Fashion spread for M a few weeks ago. This will be part of a special section that will come out early next year.

    Enjoy!

  • Michael Linsmeier

Michael is a dancer raised on a dairy farm in Cato, Wisconsin. He began his dance training at the Virginia School of the Arts, and has spent time with various summer programs such at the Boston Ballet, the Houston Ballet, and the Royal Ballet School. This is his fifth season with the Milwaukee Ballet
    (and he's only 22!)

It was funny: I was walking down the street behind Michael and his brother. At the time I didn't know that it was him, and I remember thinking that they looked like they would be fun people to photograph. I was so happy when I realized that I WAS going to be photographing one of them! Yay!

  • Anne Soderstrom

I photographed Anne for M Magazine. She is a fashion designer from Milwaukee, currently living in New York City.

She is appearing on a reality show called Who are you Wearing, which is a series to
begin on the TLC channel sometime in July.

  • Mike Eitel

I photographed Mike for M Magazine a few weeks ago. Mike is a local entreprenuer, and is part owner of the Nomad. I love the bright colors in this image. You can view this in the current issue of M.

I photographed Margaret, owner of Hot Pop (located on Broadway Street in the Third Ward), for MKE a few weeks ago. Talk about a fun store! Also, Margaret was a great model because she was fun to work with and up for anything!

  • Violetville Vintage

My friend Tina runs a Vintage re-sale business and needed some promo pics for postcards, etc. Tina modeled and styled the shoot, while I took the photos. I love how the results turned out with the bright colors!!

  • Eternity

A quartet of Germantown men is making a name for themselves performing throughout the state singing a unique blend of Southern and Country Gospel four-party harmony. This is a brand of music not often heard in these parts. The group is called Eternity (www.eternitysings.com).

I had the pleasure of being serenaded the entire time that I was photographing these awesome guys!
