  • Engagements Engagements Engagements

Here are two more couples from the past week!! So much fun to photograph!

One of my brides once told me that I could even photograph someone in front of a brick wall, and make it look good. So I thought I’d put that to the test! Here are my “brick wall” engagement photos!

  • Kristin and Matthew

Here are some of my favorites from Sunday’s wedding. It’s so hard to narrow them down! It was a hot one, but we had fun…

  • First Wedding of the Season! Carissa and Brett!

It was a bit rainy on May 13th, but it certainly didn’t dampen Brett and Carissa’s mood one bit…
The first photo is one of my favorites…you might not be able to read it, but it says “I can’t wait to see you!”

  • Ireland

I am so naughty for not putting up Ireland photos! The lovely Chad and Ruby came over for their pre-wedding meeting and informed me that they are taking their honeymoon in Scotland and Ireland. I got all excited about Ireland again when I talked to them, and it made me realize that I need to show some photos! I took a professional film camera with me as well as a digital point n shoot. All the images here are from the digital camera.

My friend Mels and I flew into Dublin. One of the famous things about Dublin is Trinity College, where the amazing Book of Kells is located. Here is Trinity college and some other Dublin images:

We took a day trip to Glendalough which is outside of Dublin. It’s an old monastic community and it was gorgeous. Basically you take a bus there, and then spend the day hiking through the ruins. There was a hotel there where Mels and I had a quaint lunch and smiled at the table of cute Irish ladies giggling next to us.

Then we took the train to Galway, which had a college town kind of feel. That’s where I had my first official “fish n chips”

I think my favorite day in Ireland was taking a day trip to the Aran Islands. Once we arrived on the main island by ferry, we rented a bike and rode around Inishmor for the day. It was phenominal. For some reason, I’ve always wanted to ride a bike in Europe, and I finally got to do it! It was also there that I had Guiness Chocolate Cake, which needs no description!

The main part of the island is the Prehistoric Fort that you hike up to. It’s like no other monument that you’ve ever seen because it’s on top of a 300 foot high cliff, and there are no fences, guards, or anyone watching you. It was really cool to see a famous place and not feel like it was a tourist area. At one point Mels and I got on our bellies and crawled to the edge and looked down to the crashing waves below. I can’t express how exhilirating that was!

Overall it was an amazing trip. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years and years, so it was an emotional experience actually being there and making it happen. I can’t wait to go back….

  • Engagement Sessions Galore!

I have done 4 engagement sessions in the last two weeks! Here are some of my favorite images:

  • New Adventures

I’ve always been a fan of Milwaukee Magazine. I don’t know exactly when it happened that I decided that my next goal would be to photograph for them. I think it’s because I feel quite comfortable with my job with the Shepherd, and I’d really like to take the next step.

The thing with freelance photography, I feel, is that there never really is one way to do things. Additionally, with the onset of digital photography, there are so many more choices when showing your work. I was a bit stumped as to how to present my work: should I make a special web page, put the images on a CD, make prints? So many choices!

I decided to make 8×10 prints – and they turned out beautifully! Then I thought: what should I put the prints in? There are photo boxes, professional portfolios that are priced at $100+, portfolio cases….again, more choices. I opted for a traditional 8×10 hardcover portfolio where you slip in the photos.

I ended up meeting with a lovely woman at Milwaukee Magazine. I picked her brain and asked what way she thought the photos should be presented. (I’d like to proceed with approaching other magazines as well). She confirmed some ideas that I already had milling around in my brain: being more creative with my presentation.

Luckily, a great friend of mine is a graphic designer. Furthermore, I have some ideas that had been rolling in my head for presenting my work, so I am excited to start this new process. I wonder where it will lead me?
