  • New things

I’m currently working on updating my website with some of my favorite work from this past wedding season. It’s nice to have some time in the winter to look back at what you worked on all summer. I’ve posted some images from one of my weddings that I’ll be putting on my updated site soon.

In other news, I’m leaving for Ireland in a week! I’m looking forward to seeing what wedding photographers are doing over there.

  • In deep thought

Today I photographed Austin. I found this to be the most challenging, because of all the people I have photographed so far, he is the person I knew the least. I was not sure if this would affect the photo or not.

Here is where we started…a test shot in his room.

Here is the photo I made, using the guidelines I have given myself for the project. This includes the framing of the image, color saturation, and consistency in lighting. Also, trying to get a more “painterly portrait” kind of feel.

And here is the photo I find the most arresting. (Keep in mind that compressing these images loses a lot of the gorgeous color quality).

  • Presidents Day

I photographed the Peace Rally against President Bush’s visit today.

These photos will appear in the Shepherd Express next week Wednesday.

It was a really interesting rally – I don’t know that I’ve ever seen snipers on top of Milwaukee buildings before!

Stop the Torture, Lying and Spying

    Stop Dead-End Oil Drilling

Money for People Not the Pentagon

    Bring Our Troops Home!

  • Video Mind Recorder

Today I went along with Tate while he filmed my dad for an upcoming installation piece. In this piece, my dad plays Lawrence Strong, the creator of the Video Mind Recorder (or VMR) a device that will record your moments for you without the use cameras or video recorders.

This is a picture of my mom freezing her butt off. Although, I don’t know if the expression she is making truely conveys how cold we all were!

If you want to see Tate’s piece, along with a list of other fine artists, come to the Bruce Nauman 101 Art Show

  • The Results

I just got back from my shoot and was able to meet Altan, and see Emily again! Altan had a very sweet, quiet way about him. Emily was adorable- very bubbly and outgoing. I was going to put just one photo on here, but then I realized it would be nice to put more than one up. I want to see what kinds of things I am attracted to in my photos over time….

This was one of the first photos that I took where we were having fun practicing different faces. I was telling Emily today that I think it’s really good to set up a pose, and then take 3 or 4 pics of the same thing, but changing your smile or expression slightly in each one. It’s amazing what a different photo each expression will make, even if everything else stays the same. One of the things I am really loving about my new Fuji s3 is the color.  I think the colors turned out gorgeous! I also really like the play between the wood and the green trees in the background.

I don’t usually do this, but I thought it would be fun just to take some headshots. All I did for these was use the natural window light. I am always jealous of people with blue eyes! I like that in Emily’s photos, everything is monochromatic except for her eye color!

I love this photo because of how natural it is. It’s like a nice beautiful little moment. These are really my favorite types of photos, but it’s always important to do strait on portraits too.

We were able to do some snow photos too. Yay!

  • Engagement Session

Today I am going to do an engagement session and we’re supposed to meet downtown. I haven’t been outside yet, so I’m hoping it’s not too cold because I think the snow would be a great backdrop! I will be meeting the groom for the first time as he is from Turkey and has not moved to the United States yet. Apprently the bride met him as a foreign exchange student, and I guess the rest is history!

I will try and post a photo later today….

  • Portrait of Bill

Here is the final result from tonights shoot. I am really happy with it! This is the rough edit, as I’d like to do some more photo shop work on it!

  • Photo project

I will be doing another photo shoot today for my portrait series. I will try to post the resulting image later today. Stay posted….

  • Photo conference in Chicago

(Some new friends with Gary Fong – the master!!)

I am really excited about the photo conference last night in Chicago! I ran into some great people that I haven’t seen in awhile. It’s always a good feeling to be surrounded by other photographers – it confirms that I am doing what I love. I’m also excited about all the new information that I received!! Yay!
